Rockford Public Schools Tip-Off Classic (Boys)
Rockford Public Schools celebrated another successful Tip-Off Classic in 2018, bringing in 12 teams from FIVE different states in our fifth year. This five-day varsity boys basketball event is held at all four District 205 high schools and has quickly become the most popular opening-week tournament in the Northern Illinois and state-line area.
The Fifth Annual 205 Tip-Off Classic included 12-teams competing from five states. The event was held Nov. 19, 20, 21, 23 and 24 at Auburn, East, Guilford and Jefferson high schools.
Teams included: Marina (Huntington Beach, Calif.); McArthur (Hollywood, Fla.); Bay View (Milwaukee, Wisc.); Pike (Indianapolis, Ind.); and Chicago-area teams Chicago Perspectives, North Chicago and Elgin Larkin. Rounding out the field were five local teams representing the NIC-10: Auburn, East, Guilford, Jefferson and Freeport.
North Chicago placed fourth in Illinois last year in Class 3A and made its first Tip-Off appearance. Larkin, which placed fourth in the state in Class 4A last year, returned for its fifth year, while this was the second straight year for Perspectives.
Our goal when we created the Classic was to offer our teams the opportunity to play top-notch competition as a warm-up to their season while inviting others to do to the same. The Tip-Off has become a signature athletic event in Rockford that continues to grow as we welcome more teams from across the nation.
