The following information was sent to us by the IHSA regarding using a shot clock for the 2022-23 boys and girls basketball seasons:
A number of resources can be found on the IHSA Boys' and Girls' Basketball Pages at www.ihsa.org regarding the 35-second basketball shot clock. Currently, there are three (3) resources that can be found under the "Announcements" heading on both of the afore-mentioned pages. Included on those pages are the following materials:
- Adopted playing rule: this document outlines the shot clock rule adopted by the IHSA Board of Directors for the 2022-23 season; this is the ONLY rule that can be used this year.
- Shot Clock approval presentation: this short presentation outlines the steps events need to follow to receive approval to use the shot clock during regular season tournaments or regular season shoot-outs.
- Shot Clock implementation presentation: this presentation covers the procedures to use when using the shot clock in approved events this season; events that ultimately are approved to use the shot clock are strongly encouraged to view this (and have related workers like officials and shot clock operators do so, too) in advance of the event.
As a reminder, events can begin requesting the approval form from Kurt Gibson at the IHSA Office beginning Friday, September 30th. Requests can be made by emailing email@example.com.
