In January of 2019, Cara Doyle (St. Ignatius), Teri Rodgers (New Trier), Kristi Faulkner (Glenbard West), Ashley Luke Clanton (Mother McAuley/Norcross), and Corry Irvin (Whitney Young/U of I) began their Grow the Game event and set out to make a positive impact on Illinois high school basketball.
The mission: Grow the Game celebrates and empowers girls and women in basketball. Grow the Game raises awareness about the importance of equity and giving all women the opportunity to lead, compete, collaborate, and honor one another through the game of basketball.
Over the past three seasons, the Grow the Game tournaments and shootouts have been held at various sites around the Chicagoland area and the amount of teams participating in it has grown tremendously. This season, 34 teams participated across three days at Lyons Township High School, Stevenson High School, and North Central College. Norcross (GA) defeated Saint Ignatius in the final.
